Season Two

Finding purpose again

George and Alice, both hailing from Kochi, stayed alone in a spacious villa they had bought for themselves two decades back. Alice, 62, was bedridden and George, 70, lovingly tended to her. George had a dozen medicines for himself, and spent all his days between taking care of his wife and finding time for himself. He had a part-time help who helped him with most of the chores. Should a medical emergency arise, he had the phone directory and his mobile, which he could put to effective use if he found his specs on time.

He was confident about his children being able to fly down in case he falls ill. His children, both settled abroad with family, had not been able to fly for close to a year. While he admitted that managing things alone for such a long time had caused him a lot of worry, he believed that he would rather live the way he did, than think of more feasible, practical options. While it is relieving to think that life will not have any more unpleasant surprises in store and that it is not yet time to make plans to shockproof ourselves, nothing is further from the truth.

George knows about the concept of Senior Living facility, but has not thought of shifting to one, yet.

With age comes a new set of possibilities- medical emergencies, progressive memory loss and feeling lonely are only a few from the long list. It is important to think ahead of all such possibilities. Doing it will enhance peace of mind, not just for you, but for all those who love you. Your children will always be there for you, but let’s face it—there will come a time when they have their own little kids, a job and a house to manage. It is not the best thing to be sandwiched between catering to the needs of their kids and parents, moving back and forth in time. We love them too much to demand so much from them.

This is why it is important to plan for our future. Senior Living facilities have been around for a long time, and senior citizens from around the world have loved the way it has changed their lives. Contrary to popular belief that a major shift in lifestyle is what it demands, senior living facilities are fluidic elements that change its shape and form to grow as your dream home, where you would build your dream life—however you define it. More social life, more connections and events to go to, more professional medical assistance, customized diet plans, you name it, it is all already taken care of. With years of experience catering to seniors, Senior Living facilities will always be well- equipped, and better-equipped, in identifying and delivering your needs much before you even realize it.
