A Kerala Childhood, A Global Dream
Sajan Pillai was born in Kerala to government employee parents. Like many of his generation, he grew up in a time when Kerala was known more for its people leaving than for companies starting here. But even as he left for studies and opportunities abroad, he carried with him a silent promise- to return and build something meaningful in his home state.
After graduating in Computer Science from the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, he co-founded Softek Systems and later joined Tata Consultancy Services. Hungry for global exposure, he moved to the US and worked with MCI Telecommunications and Tanning Technology. But it was in 1998 that he truly made history- co-founding UST Global, which became Kerala’s first unicorn and a global tech giant.
By the time he stepped down, UST had over 25,000 employees worldwide. He was honored by Glassdoor as one of the top 100 CEOs globally and recognized as a leader in STEM by global organizations. But none of these achievements made him forget where it all began.
A Father’s Illness That Sparked a Movement
In 2019, life took a deeply personal turn. Sajan’s father fell seriously ill. Despite having wealth, family, and resources, finding quality care was a struggle.
“That’s when it hit me- if this is hard for someone like me, how painful must it be for ordinary families across Kerala?”
This pain gave birth to Season Two Senior Living- not as a business idea, but as a tribute to his father and thousands of elders who deserve dignity, comfort, and companionship in their later years. It wasn’t about building an old-age home. It was about creating a home full of care.
Changing Minds and Opening Hearts
When Sajan Pillai launched Season Two in Kerala, he faced an emotional challenge: the deep stigma attached to senior living communities.
“In Kerala, people often think that putting parents in a senior home means abandonment. But the truth is, loneliness and neglect often happen inside our own houses.”
As more children move abroad for work or study, elderly parents are often left alone with little support. Season Two offers them a life with friends, health support, safety, and- above all- human dignity.
Sajan Pillai’s Definition of Retirement
Ask him if he plans to retire, and he simply smiles.
“I’ve never felt like I’m working. I do what I love. Retirement, for me, means continuing to serve in a deeper way- especially in Kerala.”
The Future of Elder Care in India
Season Two is not just a place- it’s a vision. And Sajan Pillai sees a future where care evolves with the times:
- Flexible rentals instead of permanent purchases.
- Hybrid communities with young and old living in harmony.
- Timeshare-style living, so elders can live in different cities across seasons.
- AI-based monitoring and companionship, ensuring safety, health, and human connection.
“Loneliness is one of the biggest health issues among seniors. Technology should not just connect devices – it should connect hearts.”
Hope for Kerala’s Youth
He believes that senior care is not just a service – it can be a movement for employment.
“If we build this industry the right way, we can give dignity to elders, but also jobs to thousands of Kerala’s youth in healthcare, hospitality, and tech.”
The Man Beyond the Mission
Outside work, he enjoys reading, music, movies, and travel. He is deeply rooted in Indian culture and finds beauty in Kerala’s traditions.
“Traveling through India feels like flipping through the pages of a living storybook. Every town, every festival, every face tells a story.”
Advice to the Next Generation
To young people dreaming of startups or making a difference, his message is humble yet powerful:
“Be ready for change. Be ready for storms. But never stop learning. And never stop caring.”
Final Word
Sajan Pillai’s story is not about money or fame. It’s about heart. It’s about how a boy from Trivandrum remembered his roots even as he touched the sky. In a world chasing profits, he chose to build with compassion. In every elder he serves, in every job he creates, and in every community he uplifts- his message is clear:
“Success means nothing if it doesn’t bring someone else comfort, care, or a smile.”
